How to Estimate DIY Projects
Calculating Concrete
Concrete is measured in Cubic Yards. One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. The formula is:
(Length x Width x Depth in feet) ÷ 27.
Tip: Always order 10% more than you think you need to account for spillage and uneven ground.
Calculating Paint
One gallon of paint typically covers 350 to 400 square feet with one coat. To get an accurate number, you must subtract non-paintable areas:
- Standard Door: Subtract ~20 sq ft.
- Standard Window: Subtract ~15 sq ft.
